History

Super Shuttle started the airport shuttle industry in Auckland in 1989 when the small passenger transport industry was deregulated. The brand offered a value based, airport focussed, door-to-door service that was an alternative to expensive taxis and that was much more convenient than a bus.

Durung the first two years of operation, Super Shuttle continued to refine it's pioneering shared ride service - leading the market with it's shared ride fixed pricing that enabled further discounts for small groups travelling together. The Auckland Super Shuttle service proved to be hugely popular with the travelling public with its convenient, cost effective tourism transport service focussed on getting people to and from the airport.

The early 1990's saw the wider travelling public of New Zealand embrace the new service and Super Shuttle quickly expanded into Wellington and Christchurch and then into New Zealand's main regional airports.

Super Shuttle wanted to provide a market leading service during this expansion phase and realised that this could be achieved through contracting owner driver franchisees. Super Shuttle was one of the first franchise systems in New Zealand and enjoys great success under this structure today.

In 1996, Super Shuttle purchased then competitor, Johnston's Shuttle Link.

In 1998, Super Shuttle business was purchased by Tourism Transport Limited - owner of the premium minicoach and limousine transfer and touring brand - Custom Transfers & Tours.

During the late 90's and early 00's, the company embarked upon a total restructure of the business combining the Super Shuttle and Johnston's Shuttle Link brands, rebranding Super Shuttle and Custom Transfers & Tours and overhauling the company's brand presentation, service standards, business structure and back office systems. During this time, Super Shuttle designed and installed New Zealand's first (and only) national reservations computer for ground airport transfer bookings.

In 2005 Super Shuttle introduced a world first with its innovative and market leading eDispatch. eDispatch is a mobile phone based dispatch and ticketing system and utilises GPRS data technology and customised software operated in conjunction with Windows CE/Mobile 5 equipped mobile phone handpieces. This innovation significantly enhances service levels to the travelling public.

2006 - Super Shuttle launches its online website and for the first time offers the travelling New Zealand public the opportunity to book metropolitan transfers in 10 main centres online.

2006 - Super Shuttle introduces Cisco Voice Over Internet Protocol telephone system, enabling one "virtual office" nationwide.
